DETOUR AT INTERSECTION OF 13TH STREET AND BLACKBURN AVE FOR WATER MAIN REPAIR
ASHLAND, KY – Tuesday, January 2, 2018– Due to the steep fall in temperatures over the past week, City of Ashland crews are out working multiple water line breaks. The most impactful break is at the intersection of 13th Street and Blackburn Ave, which will affect traffic both inbound and outbound while crews work to repair the lines. Traffic will be impacted on both sides of the road and drivers are urged to avoid the area if possible.
Motorists using 13th Street (US 60) into and out of downtown Ashland will encounter detours and lane closures at Blackburn Avenue beginning 8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3 2018. All outbound lanes of 13th Street (US 60 West) will be closed at the Blackburn Avenue (KY 168) intersection. Outbound traffic must detour west on Blackburn toward Westwood to Roberts Drive to Winslow Road (KY 1134) to return to US 60; or traffic may turn left to access Blackburn Avenue toward South Ashland.
The Roberts Drive detour is not suitable for commercial traffic. All commercial traffic entering or leaving downtown Ashland should use US 23 or the Industrial Parkway (KY 67) via I-64 exits 191 and 179.
All inbound 13th Street (US 60 East) traffic will be reduced to one lane through the Blackburn (KY 168) intersection. Motorists using Blackburn Avenue and Algonquin Avenue will not have access to westbound 13th Street (US 60 West), and may encounter lane changes or other restrictions at the intersection.
The City of Ashland estimates repairs will require traffic changes to remain in place for 24 to 36 hours, or until work is complete, and urges motorist to use caution when traveling around the road work. Falling temperatures may cause slick spots in and around the work area.
Due to heavy traffic — as many as 20,000 vehicles pass through the 13th Street intersection each day — motorists should expect congestion and delays on 13th Street, Blackburn Avenue and the detour route. Motorists should plan travel accordingly, or seek alternate routes to avoid delays.
